Sleep disorders we treat

  • Circadian rhythm sleep disorder — a disorder that disrupts a person's circadian rhythm, or internal body clock that influences sleep-wake cycles
  • Insomnia — a sleep disorder in which people have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Narcolepsy — a sleep disorder in which people have excessive daytime sleepiness or fall asleep at inappropriate times and places, even after a good night's sleep
  • Parasomnias — abnormal and recurrent nighttime behavior, such as sleepwalking, night terrors and headbanging
  • Restless leg syndrome — a condition in which a person experiences leg discomfort, such as pain, pulling or other sensations.
  • Sleep apnea — a sleep disorder in which a person’s breathing is interrupted during sleep

Some of our sleep disorder services include:

  • In-lab sleep study — This study involves monitoring brain wave activity, breathing, effort of breathing, oxygen levels, heart rate and rhythm and muscle movement. It is used to help your physician diagnose your sleep problem along with sleep history.
  • Sleep study with positive airway pressure treatment — This involves an in-lab sleep using a positive airway pressure device (PAP). We have the ability to use three types of devices: continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) and adaptive servo ventilation (ASV).
  • Multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) — This test is performed after an in-lab sleep study and spans a series of four to five naps that measure your daytime sleepiness. We do this by monitoring your brainwave activity to see what stage of sleep you go into when given 20 minutes to fall asleep.
  • Unattended sleep study — Also known as a home sleep test (HST), an unattended sleep study is for patients with suspected moderate-to-severe sleep apnea. It measures breathing, effort of breathing, oxygen levels, body position and heart rate.
  • Maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT) — This sleep study measures your ability to stay awake in the most extreme circumstance to ensure the treatment of your sleep disorder is working.

Once you have undergone a sleep test, your sleep doctor may prescribe a medication or device to help you with your sleep disorder. Behavioral modifications and relaxation therapy are often effective in treating sleep problems.
